Delusionary Nomenclature

The impetus for left-wing reportage is to be entirely fair, to see things from a rounded perspective, to allow all sides of an argument to be cited, and to report from there. If someone has a grievance, discover what it is, and allow it to mitigate the excess of behaviour that results.

There is reaction to actions, and one must look beyond the reaction to discover the reason for the actions. Everything has a reasonable explanation, and the truth is a moving fiction. What has meaning and value to some may be far different than it is to others.

You have to walk a mile in the shoes of a transgressor to understand what it is that motivates him. And of course there is the allure of siding with the perceived underdog, that level of society wherever it appears that is misunderstood, hard done by, and whose rights are trampled by the aggressive majority.

As if things are ever quite that simple. Not quite that simple, obviously, since there are additional motivating factors when a free press coming out of a liberal democratic background makes deliberate choices not to use inflammatory descriptives, and opts instead for 'understanding' labels, so as not to confuse the delicate feelings of the misunderstood.

Understand then that those whose fanatical ambitions are to destroy all vestiges of a society that they believe is decadent and not in conformance with the directives and holy writings of a religion that they adhere to, that offers all things to all people who surrender to its precepts are merely doing their duty to the divine spirit.

They are, therefore, not to be faulted if their duty - a holy mission to destroy those areas of humankind for whom that religion has no meaning, preferring to embrace their own religion, or no religion - calls them to respond to the dictates of religious jihad. Destruction of the 'enemy' is the overweening goal, one to be held as another way of life, not to be outright condemned.

So jihadis whose singular purpose in life is to commit themselves to martyrdom in pursuing the greater interests of Islamic hegemony are to be delicately referred to as other than terrorists. Though they embark on violent atrocities visiting premature death on infidels, Christians, Jews, Hindus, atheists, they are 'fighters', or 'militias', even 'practitioners', as one British television journalist labelled the slaughterers of innocent people in Mumbai.

After all, they have a grievance, and a perfectly legitimate one, in the belief of many Western journalists. Zionist imperialism, American assaults on the lands of Islam provoke them to these reactions. Their bloody mayhem in destroying the lives of thousands of people, injuring countless others, blowing up venerable institutions, including religious temples belonging to other religions, including their own, are forgivable.

They are warriors for justice, intent on meting out the wrath of Allah to the enemies of Islam. It's puzzling, actually. Would these same journalists, confronted by these ruthless murderers in the name of God, implore them to spare their lives because they 'understand' their motivation? Or would they experience a sudden awakening of their senses to finally recognize the evil inherent in the odious inspiration to murder others different than themselves?

These reporters gently skip around the news that might reflect badly on the activities of the attackers, committing unspeakable atrocities against human beings. At any opportunity to cast original blame at another target, say for example, Israel, their reportage becomes so much more enlightened and simpler to explain, for Zionism equates with occupation and apartheid, and that hateful creed is deserving of any mode of revenge.

In the New York Times, that respected news site, it was stated "It is not known if the Jewish centre (in Mumbai) was strategically chosen, or if it was an accidental hostage scene". Betraying what, an injudicious bigotry, or clueless bias toward hapless naivete...? Without their surreptitious scoping out the seven sites prior to launching the attacks, the identity of the unmarked building would have been unknown to the jihadis.

They were quite explicitly looking for Jews, Christians, foreigners, for greater impact, considering the slaughter of hundreds of innocent Hindus simply another facet of their burning hatred launched against a cosmopolitan metropolis of a country attempting to persuade its citizens that they can indeed live together in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

An obviously misguided social balance, intolerable in thought and substance to Islamists whose end goal is the subordination of all others to a greater Islam.
