Resisting The Occupiers

The two key words in the lexicon of Islamist denial of the right of existence for the State of Israel: "occupiers", "resistance". With these two evocative pieces of nomenclature descriptive of the presence of a hated outside entity within a geographic enclave of Islam, everything is justified. Israel becomes the ongoing target of righteous religious wrath against the presence of a religion opposed by Islamists whose presence on soil preserved solely for Muslims is an offence beyond endurance.

In taking up arms, finally, to protect its sovereignty and population against repeated violent attacks Israel submits once again to general condemnation from the international community. And the Islamists helpfully launch their propaganda tools once again to assist the West in assembling its outraged denial of Israel's right to defend itself. Eager freelance photographers film footage of impoverished and now assault-vulnerable Palestinians, of wounded children, dead civilians.

Heart-wrenching visions of hell unleashed upon a hapless and helpless population whose only crime lies in their existence, their waiting and wishing to once again inhabit the territory that God set aside for them. The simple irreducible fact that it is Hamas - the terror group whose sole reason for existence they state to be the annihilation of Israel - is morally responsible for placing Palestinians in this situation is handily overlooked - right on cue.

Hateful ideologies, however, wither and pass from history, without fuel, and support is the oxygen to its deadly fire. As a real and present danger to the sole existing democracy in the Middle East, Hamas - transparently disguising Iran's larger territorial ambition in triumphing regionally, then spreading the disease of deadly fanaticism further - is the first-line instrument of an intent to launch a global martyrdom assault.

Israel has, thus, a two-pronged moral imperative; to defeat Hamas's capabilities, and to launch its own unaided military effort to defeat Iran's intentions. The West, instead of recognizing their own eventual peril should Iran's larger schemes be realized, finds it more apt to criticize, defame, and blame Israel for its self-defence. The United Nations protests unavailingly, but as it will, for any kind of global destabilization: "cease and desist".

Which instruction is aimed directly at the legitimate action of a state to defend itself; the proxy militia engaged in terror, representing another state is not expected to react. When the Allies marched against the Axis assault against humanity they would never have acceded to a demand from any collectivity to cease their determination to defang Nazism. The entire world benefited from an end to Fascist Germany, inclusive of Germany.

The Soviets, co-operating with the Nazis, massacred thousands of Polish officers, burying them in Katyn Forest. The Allies fire-bombed Dresden, killing several hundred thousand civilian Germans. The Americans fire-bombed Tokyo, then dropped nuclear devices on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Second World War was successfully concluded. Millions of people perished, including six million Jews, in Hitler's death camps.

The Nuremberg Trials brought the worst perpetrators of Nazi imperialistic atrocities to justice. As for the direct and planned attacks on civilians perpetrated by Russia, by the Allies - clear violations of international laws - they were set apart neatly as necessary adjuncts to winning an unspeakably bloody war. These are all matters of right and might and perspective and righteous indignation that what is permissible by some is not by others.

Israel sends universal cellphone messages to Palestinians, warning them that certain areas are to be bombed, and they should evacuate. It sends thousands of warning leaflets to the civilian population. It asks residents to leave their homes to avoid being hurt in the military assaults. It does its utmost to allow humanitarian supplies through its borders. It is Hamas which deliberately and with malice aforethought, establishes its bases, its weapons caches, its rocket launchers, in the midst of a teeming urban area.

Israeli officers muse how peculiar it is that most of the resistance that they face appears to be from mortar shells and other assaultive armaments. Strangely few from face-to-face encounters with Hamas fighters. How utterly peculiar.
