Mugabe's Insane Conceit
The African union insists it is more than capable of sorting out things for themselves, in Africa. And those heads of the 53 countries in the Continent certainly know good government when they see it. Zimbabwe is now being governed perfectly well, by African standards. The point being, of course, that Robert Mugabe, an respected elder statesman of African liberation from colonial rule has put those white settlers who think they are Zimbabweans, just where they belong. In the process, while restoring African land to African rule-and-ownership, it is most unfortunate that the country has beggared itself, and is no longer a cornucopia of produce, more than capable of feeding its population, and exporting what it does not use, elsewhere, enriching Zimbabwe by its capable enterprise. Zimbabwe has gone from food exporter to reliance on outside auspices to provide food aid for Zimbabweans.
But Robert Mugabe, an African-first zealot and proud president of his country, who instituted "land reforms", ousting generations of white farmers, violently if necessary, dealing death if necessary to attain his ends, remains a respected African leader, among his peers. And while there is no deferential treatment too excessive for his cronies, his family members and those who support his rule, the people beg for scraps.
Just incidentally, the black Zimbabweans who were gifted the productive farmland 'rescued' from white ownership by white Zimbabweans, have gone fallow, fallen into disuse. And the numberless black agricultural workers who had laboured on these farms to produce the produce that fed the country and earned export dollars for the country, are now unemployed, and hungry. The black Zimbabweans who own the once-productive land, are disinterested in farming, have no knowledge of agricultural techniques.
Rampant inflation, worthless Zimbabwean currency, continuing unemployment and plenty of hungry people, this is what Robert Mugabe has achieved for Zimbabwe, and Morgan Tsvangerai, much as he would dearly love to rescue his country from its bondage to Mugabe's insane conceit, is powerless to contrive trust for foreign investment to aid his country.
