"Fully Under Control"
Cross-border violence between the Gaza Strip and Israel has resulted in 117 rockets being fired by those whom the Western media identify as Palestinian 'fighters'. Israel names them terrorists. For in point of fact what they do is spread terror in border towns within Israel. Israel has notified one-half million of her residents that they must continue to seek shelter against the bombardments. One migrant worker was seriously wounded.
In response to the continuous bombardments said to be coming from Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committee representing militias said to be independent of the Islamist Hamas rulers, Israeli warplanes have done what they can in an effort to persuade those same militias that if they persist in rocketing Israel, Israel will persist in sending its jets on kill missions.
Hamas Chief Khaled Meshaal and Islamic Jihad Secretary-General Ramadan Salah have informed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and the Egyptian ambassador to the Palestinian Authority, Yasser Othman, that they are committed to a cease-fire. Which seems peculiar, since they have also obviously authorized those rockets which have drawn Israeli ire and fire.
Can anyone seriously believe that Hamas, which controls Gaza completely, is functionally unable to put a halt to the cross-border rocket attacks? But then, because the United Nations and the European Union and Egypt, which still has a peace treaty with Israel, have unanimously called for a cease-fire, it becomes politic for Hamas to declare innocence of commission, and determination to bring a halt to the attacks.
During the Israeli response, seventeen Palestinians have died, one a young Palestinian, the other sixteen all militants. One, in fact, fired on in an IAF strike on Friday had been planning an attack on Israel from the Sinai, on the Israel-Egyptian border. This, despite Egypt claiming that the Sinai Peninsula is "fully under control" by Egypt. Therefore, in theory, such an attack could not take place.
Six Israelis, thus far, have been injured through these attacks in southern Israel. The Thai worker who was hit is said to be in serious condition. Despite their leaders' protestations of support for a cease-fire, the groups in Gaza insist they will seek their revenge for Israel's air strikes that occurred as a response to the hundred-plus rockets raining down on Israel courtesy of terror.
The longer-range Grad rockets that were hurled into Israel by the terror militias, all 25 of them, were shot down by Israel's "Iron dome" missile interceptor system. This operation on the part of the Islamists is what is popularly termed "resistance". True resistance is what is occurring on the so-called diplomatic front, where there too hit-and-miss assaults continue.
Instead of continually inciting Palestinians to "resistance", their leaderships should be grooming those to whom they are answerable to acceptance of living side by side with the Jewish state, in a Palestinian state of their own. Negotiations to achieve a peace settlement should begin with serious intent, including a trade of land housing majority Muslim or Jewish populations.
The Palestinian Authority should be fully prepared to absorb all Palestinians who wish to 'return' to what their forebears left behind. And it should be prepared to recognize the historic, heritage right of return of Jews to their religious centre of the Universe, and surrender their insistence on restoring Jerusalem to the possession of Islam, as it was under Jordanian rule.
