The Erosion of Hate-Filled Minds

This is clearly a deranged mind. Suffering the psychosis of hate, visualizing herself a messenger of death and destruction to those she imagines threatens her own way of life and identifying anyone who looks different as representing a member of the religious group that was motivated to act as martyrs to a cause of violent jihad.
She became, in essence, what she felt the jihadists to be. The irony of course is that she was herself born of a minority ethnic group which has over time migrated to the United States to become an eventual major demographic group. That she murdered a Hindu, an intelligent, gentle man who had done harm to no one and never would, reflects her tortured reasoning.
She could, of course, have as easily killed an innocent Muslim. In neither instance would her crime been any more palatable.
"The defendant is accused of committing what is every subway commuter's worst nightmare", stated Queens district attorney Richard Brown. Who may not have been nonplussed to witness the defendant, accused of murder, breaking out in hysterical laughter to flood the courtroom with a sense of unreality.
Unlike the 9-11 jihadists Erika Menendez was not prepared to martyr herself. She meant to martyr an innocent man on the deadly pike of her righteous indignation that foreign interlopers would dare enter her country to destroy and slaughter. She was prepared to kill, but not to die herself; she fled the scene of the crime once she had accomplished her deed, shoving a Hindu man toward an incoming subway train.
Sunando Sen, crushed by that incoming train had no idea of course what fate had in store for him. He was taken for a Muslim and this crazed woman who found hate so appealing that she broad-stroked all those whom she felt might be Muslim as culpable of the 9-11 atrocities, and deserving of death, accomplished her goal: dealing death.
Nor did Erika Menendez imagine that she would be apprehended and charged with murder as a hate crime. As the 9-11 Islamist jihadists surrendered themselves to martyrdom and mass murder, so she gave herself permission to avenge herself on anyone she deemed deserving.
There is a difference; they were in full possession of their mental faculties, however deranged their actions.
