Syria's Islamist Springboard

"Tunisia and Egypt, we are outside of this; we are not Tunisians and we are not Egyptians. We have more difficult circumstances than most of the Arab countries, but in spite of that Syria is stable. Why? Because you have to be very closely linked to the beliefs of the people.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

No doubt, President al-Assad still believes that he has the pulse of the Syrian people; they love him. They have been compelled by circumstances beyond their meagre control to revolt against his rule. He forgives them; they know not what they do. While forgiving them the practical side of this dictator informs his Alawite-led military to use their artillery for the purpose it was designed for. And they do.

Israel is somehow deeply involved in the fact that Islamist fanatics, jihadists have invaded Syria. Israel chiefly, but then there is also the United States, and there is Turkey, and latterly Jordan and of course, the European Union. Israel, however, controls them all; its malevolent power manipulates them to do its bidding.

An independent, outwardly secure country, one that is completely capable of providing all the necessities of life and more to its citizens, because they understand the government's support for the all-enveloping pride and devotion to the Arab collective, the Arab sensibility, the desire for Arabs to provide a united front against the ill will extended to it from the world without, is imploding.

This was not supposed to happen. Syria was different. Its leader had confidence.

This proud nation has had the ultimate ignominy of the world outside declaring the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces the true representative of the Syrian people. Who says so? Why, the United States, Britain, France, the EU, Turkey and the Arab League. What do they know! It represents a criminal offence, painful to Allah that the Arab League has turned against their member country.

If, as they claim, there are 70,000 Syrians dead, over a million Syrians displaced, it is the international community interfering in the sovereign affairs of Syria that is responsible. They will have this on their conscience; certainly President al-Assad will not. He will settle with the rebels, he will restore order in his country and he will forgive the rebels and they will be permitted to assimilate back into society, once the Islamists among them are removed.

Arab nationalism and pride and honour will be restored. Admittedly with the assistance of non-Arab Iran, but with the added help of Shia Hezbollah whose militias and that of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard have been of immeasurable assistance, supported handsomely by Russia. The ideology of the people will be restored, trust regained, the regime continue. All will be forgotten, forgiven.

And then it will be time to turn attention back to the real source of all the problems in the Arab world, requiring to be settled, once and for all. The resources are there, to support the threats.  With possession of nuclear-tipped missiles to augment the chemical and biological weapons shared out with Hezbollah and Hamas short work will be made of the stranger in their midst. And Arab unity will be restored.

So goes the legend.
