The Kremlin's Diabolical Hand

"Le Mesurier's wife told police that she and her husband had taken sleeping pills around 4:00 a.m. and went to bed."
"She said she was later woken by knocking on the door, and discovered that her husband was lying on the street surrounded by police."

"We have learned with shock and sadness the news of the death of James Le Mesurier."
"The Syrian civil defence family extends its deepest condolences to James's family."
"We express our deepest sorrow and solidarity."

Mayday Rescue of which Mr. Le Mesurier was a part, saw fit to support the Syrian opposition during the trials of its civil war, the Sunni Syrian factions contesting the Alawite Shiite government of President Bashar al-Assad's discriminatory administration, hoping their initial protests would succeed in convincing the bloody dictator that the majority Sunni Syrians' expectations that they be given treatment equal to that of their Shiite counterparts would prevail. Instead, Assad launched a no-holds-barred vengeance attack against the 'terrorists' that opposed his rule.

The barrel bombing, chemical bombs, strafing of bread lines, hospitals, schools and markets and Sunni-majority enclaves left almost a half-million dead Syrians. The White Helmets rescue group grew out of the support given them by the Mayday Rescue group of which Mr. Le Mesurier was a recognized co-founder, teaching rescue practices to the Syrian opposition whose courage under fire became a legendary message of hope when there seemed none was to be had.

In recognition of his work in the protection of Syrian civilians, Mr. Le Mesurier received an Order of the British Empire in 2016. He and the White Helmets were recipients of media attention on an international scale and became subjects of a documentary that became an Oscar-winner. His role and the attention he received made him a target of a Kremlin disinformation campaign, accusing him of being a supporter of al-Qaeda, as well as a British intelligence agent; as though there could be any conceivable connection between the two charges.

The Russian military accused him three days earlier of being a "former agent of Britain's MI6", working for the agency in the Balkans, the Middle East and Kosovo. "His connections to terrorist groups were reported back during his mission in Kosovo", they charged. Claims that the man was really a spy were "categorically untrue", responded Karen Pierce, the U.K. ambassador to the United Nations who spoke of him as a "true hero", and a humanitarian in the very finest tradition. The Kremlin, on the other hand, has bespoken its own tradition of malicious falsification.

"He appeared to have fallen from a height. Current information suggests he had committed suicide", a Turkish security source stated, claiming he was found dead in central Beyoglu district, Istanbul, outside his home. His flat, according to a second Turkish source, could be accessed only through the use of fingerprint identification. "Le Mesurier and his wife appear to be alone in the building at the time of his death", clarified the source.

And so do the honourable perish, and the guilty prosper as they 'eliminate' any who would dare attempt to repair the effects of the insufferable atrocities committed by tyrannical murderers. Ex-British Army officer, James Le Mesurier, 48, led an exemplary, human-rights-defending career and life. A consequence of his dedication to truth, honour and aid to the unfortunate, is the claim that he fell from the balcony of his home in Istanbul.

But all is well and will be resolved in good order. Istanbul detectives are investigating the death, prepared to confirm the cause was self-propelled. While Mayday Rescue urge caution, warning against "unnecessary speculation about the cause ... until the investigation is completed". So there, death by suicide....
