An 18-year veteran of the Washington Capitol police is dead, another severely injured. A vehicular attack where the attacker exited his vehicle and attacked both police officers with a knife. Sounds like a terrorist attack, a home-grown one. And certainly there is a responsibility to find details and identify why the attacker committed this deadly crime. His motivation? Hatred, and incitement. An admirer of the Nation of Islam and of Louis Farrakhan, loyal to the core. Infinitely more loyal than Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam are to the United States of America.
U.S. intelligence agencies had warned back in March that there existed an ongoing threat to peace and good order in the country. Racially motivated violent extremists, white supremacists set to carry out mass-casualty attacks on civilians. Militant groups targeting police and government personnel and buildings. And of course the manner in which mainstream media reported this attack most interested readers would assume that the white supremacists were at it again, attacking and killing white police officers. This time not. Black 'militant' attacking white police officers.
Oh, Black militants whose mental stability their families feared for. White supremacists don't suffer from mental derangement, they're just hard-core haters and find violence as good a way as any to express their rage against ethnic groups, racialized people, any in fact who don't share their bigoted ideology. Others, in comparison, say of a Middle East or Muslim background who go berserk invariably did so because of an unsettled mind. And now Black malefactors have joined that exculpatory reason for 'acting out'. By reason of insanity.
We live in an insane world. Where, suddenly the symbol of the international bastion of freedom and liberty, the United States Capitol Building, must be surrounded by a double layer of tall, sturdy fencing the better to exclude loyal citizens of the United States of America who are psychotic from entry and creating chaos and murder. If it happens there, where can it not happen? In a nation so fundamentally divided by left and right, each secluded in its partisan smugness, certain that its version of democracy is the correct one, not the other's.
Once again the Capitol complex is locked down. Although their own were fatally targeted and the attacker killed for his troubles, the police don't believe terrorism to have been involved. There are terrorists and then -- there are terrorists. Acting chief of the United States Capitol Police, Yogananda Pittman described a man driving into the officers, hitting a barricade, exiting from the vehicle and lunging at the two officers with a knife. The suspect unknown to the police, and unknown as well to the public, since they withheld the name.
25-year-old Noah Green suffered from delusions, paranoia and suicidal thoughts, his family has divulged. And police believe this to have been an isolated event by a disturbed young man. Black, is he? All is forgiven. Police and Blacks have a grossly unfortunate relationship in the United States. One that has created an enormously venomous backlash in rioting, violence, property destruction, killing. A backlash with immense and understandable sympathy internationally.
For Black men do suffer disproportionately from the attention of police, occupy more spaces in prison and just incidentally commit more crimes. A Black man met his death horribly at the knee of a white police officer. So did a white suspect. Statistics appear to indicate that Blacks are no more targeted proportionately than others by police, nor any more killed by them. Despite which, and because of which, the police have much to answer for in their own propensity to meet violence with ultra-violence.
Blacks suffered horrendously from racism in the past. There is nothing that might possibly justify viewing other human beings as destined to become slaves to improve the quality of lives of non-Blacks. And at the present time and for a long time previous to the present, Blacks have demonstrated time and again that they have the intelligence, the determination and the skills to match those of any other group. They have achieved prominence in the arts and sciences business and all professions; politics and sports. Those who aspire to succeed can and do.
Which leaves a vast underbelly of underachievers both by reason of lack of opportunity and lack of interest who prefer a life of resentment, hatred and law-breaking to furnish their future. Black criminal and hate groups and white criminal and hate groups have much in common; they are both reprehensible. Ergo the barriers erected to protect American lawmakers from the violent intentions of the public they serve, who among them are those who have no wish to be served by them, seeking instead to destroy what they find hateful.
Dozens of National Guard troops stationed at the Capital following the mass attack in January were deployed after this latest event. Wearing riot gear and heavily armed they jogged in impressive columns, organized to stand in rows around the Capitol complex. A show of force and of loyalty that will do nothing to impress those within the communities that are present within the large community of the population who detest law, order and American justice and whose purpose is to destroy it.
