Several videos have emerged on social media over the past week showing scenes of horrifying savagery. A handful of Russian soldiers around a Ukrainian serviceman. One of the Russians wearing a distinctive black cap, wields a box cutter and proceeds to castrate the prisoner. The man is eventually put out of his painful distress when he is shot in the head. The reaction by the public at large viewing the video has been one of molten outrage.
The initial doubts that the videos were not validated, that they might represent manipulated propaganda, were put to rest when experts in ratifying the authenticity of videos declared these to be legitimately authentic. Pro-Kremlin social media channels featured the videos. Verified as genuine by analysts, the footage shows the small group pinning down a member of Ukraine's armed forces.
They cut away his clothing and then he is mutilated. Kyiv, in a white-hot fury over the video with its graphic outrage, erupted with additional calls that it be equipped with more powerful weaponry to enable it to defend against Russia's incursion, and defeat the invaders. Russian troops have become notorious for their enaction of war crimes; accused of the murder of civilians, of rape, of looting and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The video shows a Russian soldier approaching a Ukrainian serviceman lying on the ground, hands bound behind him, trousers cut away. Wearing blue surgical gloves, and handling a box cutter, the Russian soldier proceeds to castrate the man on the ground whose blue and yellow uniform patches identify him as Ukrainian.
While it is one man who does the mutilation, the surrounding Russian soldiers are clearly in the same league as the vicious psychopath, cheering him on. Three men in Russian military uniforms restrain the bound and gagged prisoner, shouting insults at him in Russian, while the assault takes place.
