More grotesque horrors uncovered bit by bit of the actions of the Russian military in occupied areas of Ukraine. Inhumane treatment of prisoners of war and civilians alike in town after town. Those that survive the torment when the villages are freed from Russian occupation describe the agony and fear they suffered. In other instances, bodies discovered in mass burial sites tell their own story of grave war crimes.
With the evacuation of Russian troops in the northeast and south of Ukraine with the Ukrainian counteroffensive liberating the towns and villages and other areas in their steady advance and the flight of the Russian military -- in their haste leaving behind equipment and vehicles as thoughtful parting gifts to the incoming military to augment their already-useful stockpile of West-supplied technologically-advanced military assault weaponry, the incoming rescuers continue to uncover grim symptoms of Russian brutality.
Investigators lately discovered a box of gold teeth extracted from victims at a torture chamber maintained by the Russian military. Signs of graves and people buried alive have also been discovered; violence inflicted on resident civilians, veterans and servicemen at a facility the locals called "mini Auschwitz". The liberated Pisky-Radkivski village in the eastern Kharkiv has revealed new punishments meted out by the Russian occupying force to the hapless villagers and others.
Gold teeth appear to have been yanked from the jaws of victim of torture. Dozens of dentures were piled into a clear plastic box, evidence of the pain and horror that unfortunate residents suffered. A gas mask was another discovery, used with a smouldering rag for torture; forcing prisoners to inhale smoke.
There was evidence uncovered that Ukrainian captives had been buried alive by their Russian captors, or abused with improvised implements of torture. "Neighbours constantly heard screams from there", observed Serhi Bolvinov, head of Ukraine's national security service investigations wing in Kharkiv. This was one of dozens of torture chambers discovered in areas formerly occupied by Russian troops and discovered earlier in the week by police.
"After the deoccupation, our police officers document here the war crimes of the 'liberators' army", wrote the Ukrainian national police. Ten such sites were discovered by Ukrainian investigators in the Kharkiv region, largely liberated by a lightning counteroffensive, survivors describing for local media their ordeals within the facilities.
