Wait For It...

How very peculiar that now it is the U.S. through its intelligence-gathering institutions that is the odd man out. Great Britain's chief intelligence strategist has called into question the conclusions reached by the U.S. National Intelligence Estimate. Germany and France express no ambivalence about their belief in the impending realization of Iran's dream to possess nuclear weaponry.

Why in the world would a country insist on its right to enrich uranium if for no other reason than to achieve nuclear armaments? What would be the purpose of designing ever more powerful and long-range missiles if not for preparation for a nuclear warhead? What is the reason for sowing insecurity and unrest through all violent means conceivable in the Middle East if not for the purpose of assuming the power of ascendancy?

Is the threat to annihilate a neighbouring state an idle one? With conventional arms, given the recent history of the region, it most surely would be. In arming, training, empowering and funding violent terrorist militias to continually attack Israel from all sides the issue is clear enough; Iran is acting out its imperative as its self-perceived leader of the Muslim world. Making the Arab world very uneasy, but not over the fate of Israel.

The European Union appears to be under no illusion with respect to Iran's insistence on nuclear proficiency. With the creation of an atomic bomb Iran would be assured of riveting the world's attention. And, it fervently believes, focusing the respect of the world at large and that of the Middle East in particular. Fulfilling its promise to dispatch Israel from the map of the Middle East seen then as a reality.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has delicate questions of its own still begging answers. Iran's public insistence that its search for nuclear proficiency is for internal energy production only confuses the issue of detected contamination in its plants. In four years of the IAEA's collaboration with Iran in inspections it has been unable to confirm whether Iran's programme is for peaceful purposes.

Iran continues to defy United Nation's demands that it halt uranium enrichment. But this is the goal of the country's nuclear research efforts. Thank you, Russia, thank you North Korea, most particularly thanks are extended to Pakistan.
