Cautions and Condemnations

Israel's purported international "friends" and her real detractors alike are all busy declaring themselves to be shocked at the "disproportionate" response to ongoing "provocations" from Hamas & company. That her people have been subjected to continual bombardments of rockets from the Gaza Strip is tut-tut deplorable, but must she really take such an aggressive stance?

No other international body has any other method to offer as a suggestion whereby Israel might conceivably halt the deadly attacks across her borders, against her people, but the critiques of her actions abound. No other sovereign nation would accept the brazen declaration of a neighbour recommending its annihilation with the aplomb that Israel is expected to demonstrate.

There are no countries in the world that would sit quietly by doing nothing in response to a neighbour's brutal incursions, deliberately targeting innocent civilians. Yet Israel is expected to behave as no other nations would ever be prepared to do. Express forbearance. Breathe deeply, take no notice of the rockets landing on factories, occasionally maiming your people or killing them.

The Palestinian Authority's Mahmoud Abbas does not unequivocally demand of his Fatah militias that they cease and desist their deadly provocations against Israel, all the while purporting to be working toward a peace agreement. Instead, surreptitiously, encouragement is given to Palestinians in the West Bank to consider Israel's presence as a temporary one, soon enough to be rendered impotent, as Palestine is returned to them, whole.

Ismail Haniyeh and his Hamas Islamist jihadists make no pretense whatever; Israel knows with whom they face the future; an avowed enemy implacably driven to destroy the Jewish state. And so driven are they in their burning desire to destroy Israel that they have no qualms about victimizing their own people, whose future they claim to be representing, utilizing them as disposables, setting off rockets and missiles from within their midst. Knowing full well that an IDF reactive response will inevitably target the area.

The Palestinian hatred for Israel trumps the Arab collective's wish to establish itself as a self-governing state accepting of the reality of the presence of another ancient culture's collective, living side by side in peace. That searing hatred ever seeking revenge for their perceived victimization, an emotionally primitive inheritance of an earlier tribal survival mode, ensures that Palestinians have become their own worst enemy.

But, it seems, they simply don't care. Insistent on doing the jihadist-approved thing by destroying an enemy, before they will deign to submit to taming the beast within. Every atrocity they visit upon the enemy is declared as just. Every trauma they themselves suffer is laid at the feet of their enemy, even though they have themselves instituted the theatre and the measures taken willingly as their mode of response to fact and reality, embracing war as the final answer.

When a Hamas-inspired rocket meant for Israel goes awry, falling back and blowing up a Gazan home killing an infant within, it is blamed upon Israel. Truth and reason may lay elsewhere, but aggrieved belief leads to blaming any but oneself. A tried and true pattern with Arabs declaring their forsworn enemy guilty on all counts, engaged or not. Yet while not all Palestinians are sufficiently blind to the truth, they know the futility of struggling against the command of Hamas.

Meanwhile, thanks to the direction and funding and encouragement of allies, Hamas is now successfully launching more sophisticated missiles, hitting the coastal city of Ashkelon. Israelis wounded, suffering severe emotional shock. A seven-story apartment building hit directly by a missile in the centre of the city, and three other buildings damaged. Children injured by flying shrapnel, and suffering emotional trauma.

Another Grad missile slamming into a playground, the toddler nursery barely missed. The three-year-olds hustled into a bomb shelter by their fearful minders, tasked with calming the hysterical toddlers as their frightened parents rush to pick up their panicked children. These stepped-up barrages followed the IDF withdrawal of its ground forces from northern Gaza in the wake of fierce clashes with terrorists, when a hundred were killed, many others wounded.

But militant Palestinians are so besotted with revenge and bloodlust and the promise inherent in martyrdom that as soon as one falls, two spring up to replace him. With the IDF withdrawal, under the stern gaze of disapproval from the international community, Hamas and its thousands of supporters celebrate the triumph of "victory", promising one another of further victories when they march into Israeli communities and wreak destruction there.

What irony: Palestinians so eager for Jewish blood that they remain prepared to sacrifice everything in their zeal to kill Israelis. Yet still, Israel, the outcast, the hated intruder, sent 62 trucks through the Sufa Crossing into Gaza loaded with medical and food supplies. And a day later two hospitals inside Israel were taking in Gazan Arabs injured in clashes between IDF soldiers and Palestinian Authority terrorists.

President Mahmoud Abbas bemoans a "holocaust" taking place within the PA territories. He appeals to the United Nations to do something quickly to restrain bestial Israel. This is the same man whose academic thesis on the Holocaust cast doubt on its existence and extent.

In solidarity with their Gazan brethren, West Bank Palestinians are rioting and taking up their end in the anti-Israel violence. Even the Temple Mount is not exempt, with Arabs stoning visiting Jews, then attempting to roll a car down upon Israeli security forces. In the process victimizing an Israeli Palestinian.

Will it ever come to pass that the Palestinians stop to consider what they are doing to themselves through their mindless prosecution of mayhem against a neighbour with whom they should be bargaining for peace and an existence of equal sovereignty?
