Koranic Precepts of Charity
Yemen, along with Somalia, are emerging as the new breeding and training grounds for Islamist terrorists. Lebanon has had its day, as has Syria, Pakistan and Iran, although they remain sturdily and resolutely involved in arming and training and encouraging the process. Yemen is now being recognized as a poor Arab country in extremis; battling insurgents in the north and the south, and barely capable of governing itself while attempting to present as an ally of the West, particularly the United States - although not too visibly.Yemen is now the new base, taking over from Pakistan, for the recruiting, training and mounting of terrorist attacks both regionally and well beyond their geographic sphere. As recent events demonstrated with a Christmas Day attempt at exploding an airborne plane by a 'disaffected' Nigerian jihadi trained by al-Qaeda in Yemen. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for the foiled attempt which would have taken at minimum 300 lives.
Britain and the United States have since pledged millions of dollars of aid to the country to assist it in combating its fanatical Islamist elements, and they have dispatched their military and intelligence experts to aid in the process, although Yemeni authorities tend to play down that alliance for fear of offending the greater Arab and Islamic community. The Yemeni Embassy in Canada is attempting to persuade that country to invest millions to help eradicate extremism in Yemen.
Where are the charitable arms of the Gulf States, of Dubai, the Arab Emirates, whose laxity in supporting a sibling Arab country is notable, while they ostentatiously engage in sensationally costly and prestigious displays of finances gone amok? Why is it expected that the West will beggar itself to assist a poor Arab nation, while other Arab nations with expansive treasuries sit back and do nothing?
