Another Triumph for Obama!

He is a dogged taskmaster, to be sure. Not exactly a scold, but a standard-bearer.

He holds himself proudly and serenely aloof from some realities, while foisting his version of reality on his entranced audience. His audacious unself-conscious sense of clarity and righteousness serves to inspire others seeking to emulate his cool, calm reason. As an intellectual and one of great social conscience, he feels he can inspire others, and his confidence does just that.

He's the most popular, charismatic man of purpose and power in a grand ballroom of his peers. A born leader, his demeanor above the fray of lesser mortals, he instructs, standing always at one podium or another, lecturing, mentoring, even hectoring. No one has much intention of standing in his way, nor denying him his glory. All sit back soberly and take counsel.

There are a few blips; they are inevitable, since in some matters he does not stand in a position of strength when facing off against, for example, China. Newly emboldened by "owning" much of America's finances. President Obama walks lightly there, and extends his body graciously toward China's President Hu Jintao, who opposes atomic weapons proliferation but backs civilian uses.

In all other respects, the company of 47 world leaders is in enthusiastic agreement. Almost. On the issue of securing nuclear security to reduce the potential threat of non-state actors acquiring weapons of mass destruction, most certainly. Who would not be interested in preventing illicit nuclear trafficking?

Well, we could name a few but what's the point since that would be rather awkward, impinging on the overall warm feelings.

And for heaven's sake, pledging to return to country of origin spent nuclear materials is a wonderful way of foisting off the huge expense and worry of having to secure it in the country that currently owns that responsibility. Who would balk at that? Bring it on!

It is rather wonderful that a good time was had by all, and that a lot of very nicely photogenic greetings were electronically posted for all to admire.

Those in attendance at the nuclear talks in Washington were really the converted, and they absorbed that preach-in as they were intended to. Motherhood and apple pie are always winners. Now, what to do about the problems the world is facing here and now, with North Korea, Iran, Pakistan-Afghanistan, Iraq, the Palestinian Territories, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan?

For starters.
