African Geopolitics
In this instance there is also a Middle East and associated religious connection. Since it is President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan, that notorious appeaser of the International Criminal Court we're discussing.Wanted by the International Criminal Court, for the information of anyone living on Mars, for crimes against humanity among other capital offences for a head of state, he is not treated as a pariah despite being responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Darfurians, the mass rape of tens of thousands of women and girls and the displacement of two and a half million people.
Just doing his thing as president of the country, after all. Peer Muslim leaders stoutly defend Mr. al-Bashir against the unjust accusations by the ICC and vow to protect him. He travels as he will to engage with other leaders in the Middle East and throughout Africa, unperturbed by the nuisance designation of "wanted international criminal head of state". Not his fault that they're all idiots and bleeding hearts, after all.
There is another story to this man's reputation and place in the hearts and souls of Africans. He is singly responsible for the activities and the support thereof of the Lord's Resistance Army, that terror group wholly absent of anything resembling human conscience that preys on Africa's children, abducting them and training them to loot and to kill on order, robbing them of their childhood and their humanity; the boys as soldiers, the girls as 'wives'.
Having thoroughly raped Uganda at the order of Omar Hassan al-Bashir, they have decamped to The Democratic Republic of Congo to continue their vicious campaigns against humanity there. The LRA represent Bashir's intimidation functionaries to keep Central Africa alert and in line. No country within the African Union contemplates the slightest notion of confronting al-Bashir. They are, to a nation, absorbed in protecting him.
Partially from fear, and also from a sense of self-preservation, lest their own ill deeds come back to haunt them, with the ICC charging them too with inexcusable, horrendous acts against humanity. Abusive human rights activities are endemic to the Continent, and tribal violence and the condition of women as slaves and disposable whores is rampant, along with mass corruption and subsistence existence as the needs of the people remain neglected.
The arrest warrants against al-Bashir, for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide remain a detestably moral imperative-statement reflecting the detested, interfering West. Africa and its many nations are content to themselves manage their conflicts. Fear among their populations is the natural way of life; the heads of state would commend it to the West, it maintains the balance of power quite nicely.
