One assault after another, Muslim against Muslim, Muslims against Christians, Muslims blaming Israel for all the ills of the world. Islamists stoking the fires of grievance, assuring the restive hordes that the West, led by the United States and the Zionists have launched a war against sacred Islam.The response by the agitated Muslim masses is to rampage and bitterly protest and resent and reject everything that speaks of Western values.
So in Iraq, a country newly re-discovering and re-aligning itself, juggling and attempting to come to terms with traditional antipathies between Sunni and Shia, Arab and Kurd, Arab and Christian, attacks by one sect against another, by foreign Islamist infiltrators against the Iraqi Christian population blemish and stain with blood the new start.
The Baghdad-located Syriac Catholic Church, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, bombed, its priests and parishioners massacred. This, while the country's security forces stood by, unwilling to intercede prematurely lest they themselves become victims.
Security forces they represented, but not, obviously, there to provide security for Christians, whom they felt could fend for themselves. Security moved in once they felt certain the danger was defused sufficiently for them to engage, and they were then able to count the bodies of men, women and children and their priests.
Christian settlements in the Palestinian Territories, and in Lebanon, once largely Christian communities, have slowly migrated seeking safety elsewhere. Jews who also once lived in Arab countries all over the Middle East, and who had lived there for millennia, like their Christian counterparts, have long since departed, finding safety elsewhere.
Mostly in Israel, where Christians too have found safe refuge.
In Pakistan suicide bombers, members of the Taliban and their ideological compatriot al-Qaeda offshoots are busily slaughtering people. Militias whose work is to battle the Taliban and tribal elders in the border provinces between Afghanistan, have been targeted in suicide blasts killing 40, 50 at a time, and injuring many times more.
In Iran, bloggers and website developers are accused of "Internet offences", characterized as "taking action against national security by designing and moderating adult content websites", and "agitation against the regime", and "insulting the sanctity of Islam" - and these dire offences, along with those ascribed by the regime as alleged promiscuity by women are all worthy of the penalty of stoning until death appears a merciful release.
These are all symbols of the greatness of Islam, its peaceful character and dedication to brotherhood - at least among the faithful of Islam. A construct and interpretation by vicious fanatics that bears little-to-no-resemblance to the gentle faith so many of the religion's adherents who cling to their belief and refuse to believe that Muslims could conceivably act in such inhumanely depraved ways.
Ascribing the atrocities to false attribution on the part of Western agents, seeking to besmirch Islam and its faithful followers.
