African Goodwill Ambassadors
"There is no other solution than the military solution, because this dictator's language is annihilation, and people who speak this language only understand this language." Libyan Ahmad Bani, Rebel spokesmanSpeaking his disdain of the humanity of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi whose historical exploits in leadership and the fostering of terrorist acts abroad made him a despised and feared legend in his own time. Yet it was no secret, what Gadhafi engaged in, funding and exporting terror to the West, raving maniacally of his role as Africa's "King of Kings".
This dangerous lunatic was welcomed to state guest houses, to Parliamentary proceedings, to the United Nations, to palatial homes throughout the West as an honoured state guest. He dispensed oil money to his lesser-endowed African neighbours, and extended his friendship to Latin America where he was honoured as a socialist man of the people.
And while most of his former Arab/Muslim confreres now disown him as an irridentist, terror-supporting, human-rights abusing madman who must be removed from office, his African brethren celebrate his brotherhood with them, as a peer among peers. South African President Jacob Zuma, that paragon of statesmanship, along with other African Union leaders has presented a formula for peace.
One that proved to be graciously agreeable to Moammar Gadhafi, but scorned by the revolutionaries, and shunted aside as absurdly inadequate by NATO. Even while the African delegation made their brotherly comradeship with Gadhafi clear by their affable relationship with him, NATO continued to step up its attacks on Gadhafi's armour to break the hold on Misurata.
Clearly, the good-will ambassadorship of the African Union representatives did not have the desired effect. "The brother leader delegation has accepted the roadmap as presented by us. We have to give ceasefire a chance", Jacob Zuma declared, preparing to travel to Benghazi for talks with rebel leaders.
Who, for their part, are now cheering on NATO as it resumes its bombing of government armoured vehicles in its support of the people whom Gadhafi has targeted for well-earned annihilation.
