Another Dastardly Western Plot

Iranians are not idiots.  The population is well educated and they are, by and large, as decent a population as any other.  Having incredibly allowed themselves to be  taken virtual intellectual, social, political, religious hostages by a fanatical, fundamentalist religiosity, one can be forgiven for having doubts that they are, as a people invested in modernity and intelligence, but they are.

So, how are they responding to the high-pitched hysteria of their leaders once again accusing the West of absconding with Nature's prerogatives?  The drought that is being experienced in some areas of Iran has been translated yet again as the malign machinations of the West.  Of course, it is not only the "West", but specifically that Great Satan, the United States, which can be guaranteed to stoop low in making life difficult for others.

On the other hand, how would the ayatollahs in their great, learned wisdom explain that the drought currently gripping the United States of America is the widest in sixty years?  That fifty-five percent of the continental U.S. is in a moderate to extreme drought?  That 80% of the United States is abnormally dry?  Have they jinxed themselves in compelling nature to visit drought upon Iran?

If the Islamic Republic of Iran's ayatollahs are so convinced that their mortal enemy has supernaturally taken over a role of nature in bringing searing heat and drought to plague Iran, perhaps they're looking at the wrong nation to blame...?  After all, did not the God of Abraham (forget that Abrahamic religions claptrap) bring a series of catastrophic, unnatural plagues upon Egypt when it oppressed the Jews?

Clearly, Tehran is lagging in its ability to clarify the issues at hand.  Those addle-brained clerics cannot correctly interpret signs from Heaven when they're abundantly clear.  If their version of the All Powerful is as correct as they insist, why do they not pit Allah against Jehovah/Yahweh, and see who has the most authority where it counts...?

Iranian Vice President Hassan Mousavi said Monday that the drought in southern Iran is part of a “soft war” launched against the Islamic Republic by the West, Fars news agency reported.

“I am suspicious about the drought in the southern part of the country,” Mousavi, who also heads Iran’s cultural heritage and tourism organization, said at a ceremony to introduce the nation’s new chief of meteorological department.

“The world arrogance and colonist (term used by Iranian authorities to label the West) are influencing Iran’s climate conditions using technology... The drought is an acute issue and soft war is completely evident... This level of drought is not normal.”

Iran has experienced several droughts in recent years, especially in the south where it was hit in recent weeks by violent sand storms that engulfed several cities, noted AFP.

Last year, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Western countries of devising plans to “cause drought” in Iran, adding that “European countries are using special equipment to force clouds to dump” their water on their continent.

Iranian leaders claim, on a daily basis, that Western countries devise “plots” in efforts to undermine the regime and obstruct its development.

I rest my case.
