With Deadly Precision....
"He will never talk about it unless he is challenged directly, then he is never boastful of what has happened, but he is not ashamed either."
"Every shot was judged and balanced, not indiscriminate. He always saw the men between the crosshairs as humans, not as targets. He is not interested in scores or kill counts. He took no satisfaction in the job he had to do."
"Like all snipers he had to be in a place where his concentration was absolute. Nothing mattered, not the cold, not the discomfort of the ground, just the job."
Unnamed British source
Well, there it is; another legend born. A bashfully shy one, but yet a man of steely resolve, determined to carry out his duty as a Royal Marine sniper, a still-serving corporal who made his 'kills' throughout a single six-month tour of Helmand province, Afghanistan, serving with the NATO forces against the Taliban eight years ago.
This is no psychopath; this is a man for whom duty is everything, scrupulously human, taking pains not to dehumanize those he is about to render lifeless.
Although it is possible that the actual number of those shot by this sharp-shooter could conceivably be far higher, sources informed The Sun that the sniper, a married father of several children from the south of England, whose identity is kept secret for obvious enough reasons, shot to death 173 confirmed 'kills'.
"Only people inside the community know about his incredible contribution, but young recruits are in awe of him. He is one of a unique band of marksmen who have done extraordinary things. He's not the sort of man to brag. He's very professional and humble, but with a gun in his hands this bloke is deadlier than the plague. He's a legend, a unique breed."
And he goes about his duty with flawless accuracy in response to those who "make his day" requiring his attention. A star is born.
Lest one resist being awed, consider this for a day's work: Most of his 'kills' were made during the winter of 2006-07. At one point he is reported to have shot 90 Taliban fighters in a single day. How's that for shock and awe?
