Crusaders, Jihadists
Weigh this on the scale of social responsibility and the integrity of relationships. Let alone on the basis of values, priorities, and the roots of problems. And let's not forget that intangible, yet very real cultural reaction as opposed to that tangible undeniably present reality of global jihad. What?Baris Kaska, a Turkish lawyer specializing in European law no less, is outraged that an Italian football team from Milan has styled its uniform with a white shirt hosting a large red cross. The sport team is from the city of Milan. A red cross on a white background just happens to be the official symbol of the city of Milan.
Where Italians see the symbol of Christianity and the Saviour, Muslims of a fundamentalist bent, even if they specialize - perhaps particularly if they specialize in European law - see a feared and hated symbol of the past: the symbol of Muslim-slaughtering Crusaders. So this man has lodged a complaint in a Turkish court against the Italian team, Inter Milan.
"That cross only brings one thing to mind: the symbol of the Templar Knights. It made me think immediately of the bloody days of the past" claimed Mr. Kaska. Doesn't take much to incite hatred in Islamists, it would appear. The most common symbol in Christianity strikes an instant recollection of millennia-past events, and that symbol is to be instantly expunged to mollify the tender feelings of a Muslim crusader.
The cross, he went on, symbolized "western racist superiority over Islam". How perfectly unfortunate. Mr. Kaska explained he was seeking damages, and also appealing the decision in the most recent match between Inter Milan and the Istanbul team Fenerbahce which saw Inter Milan win 3-0. Because, he insisted Inter Milan had "manifested in the most explicit manner the superiority of one religion over another".
Really. That gut reaction has spawned a deadly new industry of global jihad. From Iraq to Iran, from Lebanon to Sudan, from Algeria to Somalia, From Chechnya to the Philippines, from Pakistan to Afghanistan, from Russia to India, it is Islamic jihadists turning the world upside down in an all-enveloping paroxysm of blood-letting. A fierce, unstoppable storm of violence. Against their own deemed to be insufficiently devout, against the world of the Infidel.
This is acceptable to Mr. Kaska. What might he think of a Christian lawyer specializing in Sharia law bringing a law suit against al-Qaeda, demanding compensation for all the lost lives in their ferocious war against anything tainted by the West?
