Tiresome Disagreements
It's well enough understood that improvised explosive devices have been the cause of many deaths, along with additional dreadful injuries among western troops stationed in Afghanistan in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) battle to defeat the Taliban and turn the country back to complete administrative and security control by the Government of Afghanistan. It's well enough known that insurgents have infiltrated the Afghan national police; not so much the Afghan national military. That the Afghan police in particular have been quite susceptible to their loyalties being bought by the insurgents. Explained away by the fact of low pay, poor morale, inadequate training. Perhaps to be added a puzzlement over why Pashtun should be battling Pashtun.
NATO forces have arrested a senior Afghan police official, accusing him of assistance to the insurgents. Helping their IED-producing activities and assisting them in planting their roadside bombs. There is a trifling disagreement between NATO and Afghan officials, however who doubt the accusations tainting this man's reputation as a loyal Afghan.
Afghanistan's Interior Ministry which has responsibility for its national police has condemned the man's arrest, demanding an explanation from NATO. Provincial authorities are also puzzled that Attaullah Wahab, deputy chief and security head of the national police in the province has been taken into custody on those charges.
Nor does a spokesman for the province's governor know of any allegations of illegal activity on the part of the arrested police official. A case of mistaken identity? A matter of clan vendettas? Someone offering up to NATO false information respecting a purported enemy of foreign forces gathered in assistance to Afghanistan?
Of course the man arrested has been accused as well of corruption relating to a road project which has profited him. And of other illegal activities in the district of Bagram. His name has been linked as well to a year-old killing, NATO claims.
Let's see: official corruption, illegal profiteering, murder. How does that disqualify anyone with connections from serving high office in Afghanistan?
