Incandescent, Raging Hatred
It's difficult to understand how a religion can produce faithful who view the most basic tenets of their religion in such different and violently antagonistic ways. From the pious worshipper who wishes no ill will toward anyone, anxious for life to continue on an even keel, to the rabidly merciless jihadists who believe that there is only one way to worship Allah, and that is their way.Any other Islamic off-shoots whose belief in the divine is expressed slightly differently are considered to be apostates, insults to Allah. And for that insult to Islam, death is the remedy.
Violent jihadists believe, it would appear, that their god is one who insists on violence, on destruction, on hatred and belligerent bile to be spewed against those whose mode of worship they reject. It is inconceivable to non-Muslims, to be confronted with the peculiar reality of Muslim dysfunctionality.
That a mosque, sacred in Islam and to Allah, can be attacked without conscience, by one sect deploring the worship of another. With the appalling consequences of mass death and the righteous declarations from the destroyers of lives who claim they are reclaiming Islam from the sacrilegious unfaithful.
As much as Western democracies find violent jihad repugnant and dreadful - spreading fear wherever rapaciously vicious assassins calling themselves Allah's shaheeds, raving lunatics spreading terror in the West - it is as nothing compared to the slaughter visited by fanatic Muslims against their Islamic brethren. In Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in India, quietly modest worshipers of Islam are victimized.
Fundamentalist Sunnis hate Shiites and each conspire to murder one another. And both factions hate other Islamic groups and Baha'i, considering them to be unworthy dross, an affront to the true Islam. The Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorizing Sufi Muslims gathered to worship and to declare their love and trust in Allah through one of Islam's beloved saints, attack yet another sacred shrine, another mosque, killing and wounding many.
In Lahore, Pakistan, two and perhaps more suicide bombers set out to prove their allegiance to the one true faith, by destroying the lives of 41 Sufi worshippers, and wounding over 120 innocent people. This is Islam devouring itself. This is Islam insufficiently engaged in protecting itself from the madmen among themselves.
This is Islam failing to regulate or to rein in the hate-filled aspirations of fanatics claiming to represent Allah's interests.
This is branding Islam to the non-Muslim world with reactive Islamophobia, a creation of Islam itself.
