The Viral Protest

There has surfaced around the world in unexpected places an infectious new virus which infects upon contact and also through word of mouth. Who might ever have suspected that the virus of dissatisfaction was so communicable, so resolutely capable of drawing countless numbers of people toward sharing their high dudgeon in public places where such gatherings have always been forbidden?

Those who have entrusted themselves to rule over the unruly and the unpredictable shudder now at the very whisper of rebellion creeping into the infantile minds of the masses. That great unruly beast that roars until it is placated, then creeps back into its dark lair to brood upon the misfortune of their misbegotten lives until they're infected yet again with discontent.

This time the discontent is of a different variety. An unaccountable dissatisfaction. For what else have these masses known but the status quo? The static existence of privation and domination, of humiliation and powerlessness? What would they do with the freedom to exercise free will, for they know nothing of the world, and must be maintained as penitent dependents.

Promises that heretofore were sufficient to mollify the beast of public opinion no longer work however; the opiate of subsidized food and energy and the avuncular but stern admonishments for good behaviour that were so efficiently upheld by the national police, security, armed forces, no longer appear to be influencing the docile grumblers suddenly transformed into protesters.

It is those protests, those gatherings, those subliminal grievances suddenly surfacing resulting in the strength of numbers proving to be too difficult to be amenable to what was previously held to be reasonable. Necessitating that, though the eyes of the world be steadily upon the responses, force must of necessity be utilized.

The demanding hordes have no idea whatever what the fulfillment of their demands would result in. There would of necessity be chaos in place of order and good governance. Their adolescent need to feel they have a modicum of control over matters they know nothing about simply serves to prove their incompetent yearnings to achieve what they could not manage.

In all good conscience, disorder, disarray, loss of prestige, the slippage of control can not be tolerated. The orders to mount night-time raids on the unsuspecting, the orders to shoot to maintain order and structure, the orders to arrest and apply persuasive means so that suspects will admit all, are inevitable. Discipline must be achieved.

Order must, and will prevail. The prevailing order. There is none other.
