The Justice of Human Rights Observances

Two British extremists believed to be planning attacks on Britain have been freed from detention in Afghanistan on human rights grounds, The Daily Telegraph has learned. British forces, which captured the married couple, were unable to hand them over to the Afghans for prosecution in case they were tortured.

"They were more or less caught red-handed", one security source said. "There is no doubt about it, they had already received bomb-making training and were planning to return to the U.K."

But lawyers in Britain approached the couple and blocked their transfer to the Afghan authorities because of their well-documented record of torturing prisoners. Diplomats believed it would be too difficult to get assurances from the Afghan government that the pair would not be mistreated.

"Putting them through the Afghan legal system really wasn't an option", the source said. The Daily Telegraph

Imagine that: they might be mistreated. Horrors...! The Afghan authorities, in fact, would be swift to assure any British diplomats that their military and their national police are well-trained and respectful of their prisoners' rights. Afghanistan does not indulge in torture, heavens no.

Let's get this straight: Two Brits, determined to do their part for Islamist jihad, travelled to Afghanistan for the specific purpose of obtaining training in terrorist activities, to take that training back to Britain with them and enjoy themselves proving how committed they are to jihad. He, a dual Afghan-British citizen, she British; both in their 20s, out for an adventure. He has been stripped of his British citizenship, hers remains intact.
“Our special forces risked their lives to capture terrorists who had been trained to kill and maim but then we find that we can’t take any action against them and have to set them free. It leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.”

After interrogation the couple, known to MI5, which hardly anticipated they would fly to Afghanistan with the intention of linking up with al-Qaeda, were free to go. The initial intention was to fly them back to Britain and keep them under surveillance, house detention, that kind of kindly oversight, but the Home Office thought it better to keep them in Afghanistan, free to do as they wish, there.

What's to keep them there? Nothing, particularly, since they're hell-bent on returning and demonstrating all the skills they've acquired in Herat at training camps. It is a bit of a worry, a little bit of a concern. But not to get all caught up in that kind of thing. After all, the authorities have been advised and they will be apprehended, presumably prior to setting off explosives in inconvenient public places.

And their human rights will most certainly, thank Providence, have been protected by ensuring that the Afghan authorities didn't get their corrupt, torturing hands on this misguided couple. That's the main thing. Everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief that they're safe. The jihadis, that is.

They were found close to the Iranian border. Good thing the Iranians didn't get their hands on the pair. Then their human rights might have been seen to be in jeopardy. Talk about missed opportunities.

Hot Damn!
