Royal Prerogatives
"The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diane, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so." St.James's Palace official
Sad, that titillation at the antics of celebrities, royal ones no less, is once again in the news. Is it really all that newsworthy? In France, many women sunbathe topless, we are informed. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge happened to be in France at the time, and she chose to do as others there do, baring her bosom to the sun.
These silly little choices have been made by the younger generation of the Wales family of Great Britain for years. Somehow, William's uncles and aunts have also made it into the news and their photos pictured large in scandal sheets, rocking Britain back on its once-prim heels. Princess Diane whose poor life choices and extroverted desire to be featured large in those scandal sheets led to her death.
This cannot be a truth somehow unknown to her son and his bride. Circumspection and awareness of their public behaviour as honour-bound and demure seems not to have been as deeply ingrained in their psyches as royal personages as it was for their grandparents. If they chose to disport themselves as they most obviously have, revealing themselves intimately in the public sphere why affect dismay, annoyance and loud blame on others?
A long lens camera captured images that proved to be embarrassing as they related to extra-marital activities on the part of other family members in the past. The obvious lesson to have been learned from that would be to avoid such public exposure. If on the other hand, they choose to display themselves in indecorous display in the public arena, that is their choice.
When they do so it becomes tantalizingly attractive to photographers and those who report on the activities of the famous, the royals, the celebrities of the world. People are understandably curious; they want to know if such people are any different than they are.
They are obviously not; given to hapless decision-making, then blaming others for the fall-out.
