Disease and Religion
The vicious religion-inspired wars that jihadists have been waging are slowly destroying the lives of countless Muslims across the Middle East, Asia and North Africa. Viral spiritual-engrained lunacy has resulted in countless attacks inspired by tribal and sectarian animosities where those most sacred of structures, mosques, and their worshippers, are attacked if they represent Shiism, or alternately, if they are consecrated to Sunni worship. This is Islam slowly destroying itself, a slow-acting cancer of self-annihilation.At times when the Islamist cancer is not being self-directed toward inner sources that do not sufficiently comply with the jihadist fixation on purity and absolute surrender to a totalitarian ideal of self-abnegation and the total negation of individuality, human rights, and human liberty in service to an ideology requiring utter subordination to the cruel demands of the pathologically demented whose free choice has been forever tainted by the Islamist disease, attention also turns outward, toward the abomination of the West.
Because Western bulwarks of civilization are less readily accessible to the destructive tactics of vowed jihadists doing the work of fanaticism by attacking Western institutions, symbols, defences and populations through an increased alertness enabling the West to close ranks through shared security technologies, communications, intelligence and determination to protect itself, it remains largely the well-publicized but failed attempts that have succeeded in throwing a mantle of terror over the West.
In response to which the West focuses intently on additional intelligence sources to be opened, increased surveillance both externally and internally to surface potential threats, and costly devices and undertakings to combat uncertainty and the possibility of further successful attacks. Even while engaged on all these fronts, the West does what it always has in the modern era; launching humanitarian missions to aid populations from whom spring the very assassins that plague the world.
Through United Nations auspices and international humanitarian work, wide-ranging scientific health initiatives are undertaken to rid the world community of ancient and persistent diseases whose efficiency culls the vulnerable, those suffering from malnutrition, oppression, disease-onset and engrained poverty in undeveloped parts of the world. The focus is vaccination to destroy mass outbreaks of diseases. From HIV/AIDS to malaria, guinea worm to river blindness and smallpox, aid is given to combat eradicable disease.
And that aid often meets with resistance. Resistance to life-enhancing vaccines occurs in the West as well, where popular and science-ignorant movements claim that conditions like autism are spreading as a backlash complication to injecting vulnerable children with vaccines. Vaccination works on a herd principle of stalling the spread of viral agents and disease by ensuring that enough people are adequately resistant to them through mass vaccination. In areas where vaccination is not carried out people are more vulnerable to infection.
The result of not being able to enter areas in social and religious turmoil, hostile to the vaccination of children against polio myelitis in places like Somalia and Pakistan is that the global effort to eradicate this disease that was just hovering on the brink of extinction in the human community has halted. It now has resulted in a situation where the virus is surging in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, with a new outbreak beginning in the NorthWest Frontier province of Pakistan.
Just as in Africa there was resistance mounted against the use of HIV anti-viral drugs with the claims by health authorities in various African countries that the drugs were a sinister means in themselves devised by the West whereby greater numbers of Africans could be infected, representing a larger plan to destroy Africans by whites, in Islamist-dominated countries, suspicion has halted vaccination programs meant to stop the spread of polio.
The new Pakistani outbreak has appeared in North Waziristan close to the Afghanistan frontier, in an area where warlords representing the Pakistan Taliban have banned polio vaccination. Attributing to that humanitarian campaign undertaken in an agreed-joint effort between the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations to protect the lives of thousands of vulnerable children, a plan by the West to attack children, infecting them with dread viral agents.
In Somalia, polio has surfaced in its capital Mogadishu and in the sprawling Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya housing thousands of Somali refugees who had fled drought and starvation and the conflict and predation by the Islamist al-Shabaab terrorists who had refused to permit United Nations and other international humanitarian aid workers to deliver medical aid and food to desperate Somalians.
Islamists universally tend to ascribe ulterior, destructive motives to foreign westerners, an attitude consonant with the hatred they extend to the West, blindly self-destructive in the process.
In Saudi Arabia, the very country whose Wahhabist brand of extreme Islam bred al-Qaeda and where wealthy Saudis still support al-Qaeda, and whose government has and continues to richly fund the construction and curricula of madrasses throughout the world famous for turning out future Islamist jihadists, authorities have taken responsible measures to ensure that disease contamination during Mecca is absent in their country.
Pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia from any country with polio cases must be vaccinated before leaving their home countries. And they must agree to surrendering to the vaccination process again on arrival in Mecca. Where, last year, almost a half-billion pilgrims were vaccinated on arrival during the yearly pilgrimage to the holiest site in Islam.
