"Mispoke" Himself
A dictator, however benevolent he likes to portray himself to that proportion of his people whom he is intent on harnessing to his agenda by doling out little favours here and there, will nonetheless become enraged at the unwary presumption of those whose duty it is to remain steadfastly and unctuously loyal to his vision. And that vision cannot and will not be accomplished without the living presence of that dictator. To assess his medical-health condition as a health practitioner is wont to do, and then to carelessly and publicly share the assumptions evident from symptoms and treatment of that condition, is to invoke the wrath of the subject under discussion. So really, it was most incautious of Dr. Salvador Navarrette, who was more than a trifle naive, to discuss with a reporter his perception of Hugh Chavez's longevity.
Suffering from dread cancer, and treated with surgery in Cuba, inclusive of the following chemotherapy, Mr. Chavez remains as bumptiously, egocentrically upbeat as ever. Declaring for all to hear that he is en route to defeating cancer just as he successfully defeated that great evil on the world stage, the United States, by his diabolically-clever mockery of its status.
President Chavez's grandiloquent gestures in sharing his country's oil wealth with his less fortunate neighbours, including providing subsidized heating oil to poverty-stricken Americans, as a marked jibe against his despised nemesis, his clownish antics in desperately poor taste, but certain to elicit appreciative giggles from his supporters, ensure no change in his demeanor, despite the change in his health prospects.
Having earned the wrath of Hugo Chavez by publicly airing his view that the president has fewer than two years to live and wreak diplomatic turmoil among his peers and his detractors alike, Dr. Salvador Navarrete has fled Venezuela to himself survive the next two years.
