Uh, oh. He's at it again. Hold onto those keffiyehs. Fasten those black face masks. Pope Benedict plans to pray for the redemption of Islamist jihadists. He plans, during his trip to Ground Zero in New York to invoke the name of Christ as Saviour of the world - to piously call for terrorists to convert to Christianity."Turn to Your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred. God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy, we seek your light and guidance. Bring Your peace to our violent world: peace in the hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the earth." Amen, truly amen.
Yes. Well, as it happens, terrorists have already found their light and their guidance. They have no need of another, foreign god to turn them from their dedication to Allah. Those who pledge their dying loyalty to Islam as living bombs, and obey the precepts and orders they find in the Koran are not of the ilk of Magdi Allam, whose conversion was so convenient a symbol for Easter.
Pope, pope, do reconsider, lest the world believe your Muslim accusers that you intentionally are provoking a "new crusade" against Islam. Yes, it's true that Islam cast the first pebble that caused the ripples to spread and took ancient bastions of Christianity into the Muslim fold, but that's old history.
Now look what you've started, will you? You're not the only one proselytizing for Christ. Now, the Protestant evangelicals are targeting Jews. Let's get this straight, once and for all. The Jews were first, remember? Judaism, against its better judgement; actually despite its judgement otherwise, gave birth to Christianity.
And while Jews may never find it in their hearts to forgive that apostate, Saul of Tarsus, they don't, actually, go about trying to convert Christians to Judaism. So give us a break, all right? Jews have been caused enough heartache, have been too long the victim, so just back off, right? We already own Yeshua, matter of fact. He was one of our boys.
Speak to your colleagues at the World Evangelical Alliance, and put in a good word for those who made your job at the top of the religious world possible. Tell them to forget "The Gospel and the Jewish People"; the Jews have their own gospel. Supersessionism is a no-go with Jews. It's simply Christian hubris gone utterly mad.
Fact is, we've had it, we Jews. Those who practise and those who do not. We've been "imposed upon" enough to last forever in the annals of historical public criminality against humankind. We'll accept apologies, thank you very much. Keep the overtures to yourselves. We're not amenable to absorption.
Spiritual, ethnic, religious, cultural genocide by any other name.
