Terror Central
How about that, drone strikes across the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan, where al-Qaeda and the Taliban are comfortable ensconced, have succeeded in destroying the lives and plans of some members of the Taliban. And Pakistan, which doesn't too much mind knocking off Afghanistan Taliban, although they still give them unofficial cover, takes huge umbrage at the U.S. hitting Pakistani Taliban.Seeking collaborative action with Pakistan is no easy task. Granting Pakistan huge sums of cash support for its military under the guise of assistance to its state institutions meant to make life more reasonable for people there has ensured that grudging partial support has been extended from Pakistan toward the struggle in Afghanistan. But that support has never been reliable, and now it is even more tenuous.
Add to that the fact that al-Qaeda sits there undisturbed, alongside the Pakistani Taliban plotting nefariously bloody actions against international troops stationed in Afghanistan, and now branching out to encourage their affiliates to plan attacks directly within Western countries. Europe is overdue for another attack, and if one could be successfully mounted in the United States as well it would represent a great source of triumphant satisfaction for al-Qaeda and its supporters.
And that's where home-grown jihadis come into the picture; young men who have been born to immigrant Muslim parents in Europe or North America who find the allure of jihad inexpressibly attractive, promising them excitement, romance, adventure and revenge on behalf of the Islamist brotherhood incensed at their world status, subservient to a degraded world of the West.
There, in Pakistan, where training camps have famously inspired attacks such as the one in Mumbai, Spain, Britain and Indonesia, and just as famously failed ones in the United States, aspiring martyrs-for-the-supreme-cause travel to obtain their bona fides as terrorist-material in the hopes that they will be able to successfully mount the terror-inducing attacks they dream of, to become famous heroes of the Islamist 'resistance'.
This is the country that curdles the blood of India, anticipating the inevitable from an implacable enemy; the country that inspires fears in world leaders because it has spawned a tide of jihadists-without-end who surely have ambitions to avail themselves of the greatest terror-inspiring weapons the world has on offer right within Pakistan itself in its nuclear installations.
This is the country that the United Nations cajoles the wealthy countries of the world to support with humanitarian aid to save the hapless victims of cataclysmic flooding that the country's administration could have and should have taken steps to responsibly ameliorate in the past.
This is the epitome of a miserable, failed state, and a threat to world peace.
