Ironies Abound
An interesting change in strategy and jihadist procedures. The Pakistani military and its secret service groomed the tribal mujahadeen of Afghanistan to become a formidable foe of the military invasion of that country by the Russians who sought to defend against the influence of Islamism. Their eventual success in helping to route the Russians who had their fill of despairing failures in lost lives, investment and time, resulted in an Islamist government bringing misery to Afghans under the Taliban. When U.S. troops and their NATO allies invaded Afghanistan to route the Taliban along with their honoured guests, al-Qaeda, and Osama bin Laden, their ally, Pakistan, covertly gave the fleeing Taliban and al-Qaeda protective cover over the border. The U.S., which had been instrumental, along with Pakistan, in training and arming the Taliban against the Russian invaders, had helped build a monstrous collaboration between two virulently deadly Islamist groups.
And rued that history when they were themselves horribly attacked by martyrs of the Islamist revolution. But once Afghanistan was assisted by NATO and ISAF forces to unseat the Taliban, it was Pakistan that continued to aid and assist the Afghan Taliban, never dreaming that their own Pakistani hill tribes would themselves create their own version of the Taliban with which to target Pakistan. If Afghanistan required an Islamist government, no less did Pakistan.
The Pakistan military continued its double game of succouring the Afghan Taliban, while seeing the need to battle the Pakistan Taliban, even while they were themselves infiltrated by Islamist factions who supported the country's virulently fundamentalist Islamists who had been trained to fight India for possession of Kashmir. While the U.S. continued to hand over massive amounts of foreign aid to Pakistan, its military and its secret service paid homage to and gave safe passage to those sworn to destroy Western society.
And Pakistan, a nuclear power, cannot now safeguard its own military installations from those who threaten the stability of the country. Where once Afghan Taliban streamed out of Pakistan safe havens to attack the combined NATO-UN forces battling them in Afghanistan, and continue to do so, now the Pakistan Taliban have taken to streaming out of Afghanistan's lawless border regions to attack Pakistan's government and military installations.
"Our new strategy of launching big attacks on military installations was aimed at causing demoralization in the ranks of the security forces and tiring of the government", explained a leader of the Taliban Movement of Pakistan. They have launched a string of attacks including against paramilitary cadets, a naval base, a U.S. consulate convoy and government offices, and more. Bolder now, more assertive, putting the lie to the country's assertions its military offensive has succeeded.
That's quite the distinction that Pakistan has earned; the country with the vilest, most violently active jihadists in the world, sending out its trained jihadis in a vast network across the Globe.
Pakistan, the crucible of Islamofascism. Innocent of any official notice that it protected the interests of the father of modern violent jihad.
