Intelligence services have discerned that there is an increasing risk and potential of coordinated attacks taking place in Europe, and possibly North America. This is al-Qaeda responding to the tight place it finds itself in, ensconced within Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas, traditionally no-go areas for the government of Pakistan and its armed forces.With agreements historically made that the tribal areas are laws unto themselves, and will be left that way.
Now the reality that those tribal areas which regulate and govern themselves independently of the country's administrative government demonstrates just how independent they are. Responding to their own ideological/religious institutions, values and priorities that reflect their heritage of rigid Islamism. Whose Sharia-led rough justice was exemplified in the savagery of the Taliban, given birth there.
Natural allies, the Taliban and al-Qaeda support and reflect one another's religious strictures on the societies they claim to represent in their greater aspirations to eventually triumph in overturning the primacy of Western values, replacing them with fundamentalist Islamist ones. The terror they visit on the West in their embrace of self-annihilation for the greater good of destroying an enemy and that enemy's peace of mind is meant to create an atmosphere of instability and inevitability in surrender to Islam.
Every successful attack on a Western target is another assurance to the dedicated fighters, the mujahadeen, the Taliban, the jihadists, that they are successfully pursuing the work of Allah, as set out for them through the dictates in the holy Koran. There is cunning and delusion both in this belief in performing God's mission to transform the world of the infidels into a world dedicated to Islam, a global Caliphate.
And there is no lack of volunteers ready to be trained and invigorated and indoctrinated into the grand mission to achieve such a transformation. NATO bombs North Waziristan, in the process while targeting the terrorists in drone attacks manipulated from afar through modern technology, and though successful in dispatching jihadists, also firms up the resolve of those that remain.
Some of whom have travelled to Pakistan for the express purpose of achieving training, of experiencing guerrilla warfare, of returning to their European and North American host countries, and of completing their mission to bring bloody mayhem and mass murder to the very countries where they were born and raised, educated and socialized.
