The Meaning of Chutzpah -- At Risk of Charge of Guilt-By-Association
"I do not ask Milton voters to judge my son's case through me, or to judge me through my son.""I ask them to judge me by my qualifications, my values, my experience, and what I can bring to our public schools."Khdiga Metwally, school trustee candidate, Ontario
How can one find fault with a candidate who is a university department chair, an author, speaker, human development instructor? Viewing this school trustee candidate's website anyone can read her priorities; they are what any parent of a young student would agree with and be impressed by. "A high-quality, well-rounded curriculum, strong academic achievement, practical life skills, and safe, inclusive schools free from hate, racism, discrimination and bullying."
She has hit all the right notes. Most particular in a prevailing atmosphere where some of those sought-after verities of a sound education; a respectful environment, an inclusive atmosphere in schools dedicated to promoting curiosity, a love of learning, and exposure to all the elements of knowledge, practical and wide-ranging, that make for a well-rounded education in a student whose aspirations to continue learning throughout their lifetime make for a good citizen.
These are elements that have of late been found lacking in many schools, with the advent in the past decade of a large contingent of anti-civility, pro-revolutionary, leftist Critical Race Theory, DEI contingents whose alliance with anti-Democratic, anti-Western foreign elements that have infiltrated society in the West, inveigling their way into academic circles, trade unions, school boards and other social-influential positions including government have wrought wholesale change in Canada.

Khdiga Metwally, however, knows the solution to some of these social-disorder changes that have taken place in Canada, with her focus on the state of education in the country's schools, where current and future generations of students can be patterned to become responsible adults taking their due place in society. "Timely mental-health support is also essential", she writes. "Family experience" has guided her toward "the value of early understanding, compassionate support, and appropriate intervention".
Alas, none of that appears to have worked for her family and her student-son, now an adult convicted for plotting 9/11 type attacks on civilians in New York City in 2016, as a follower and champion of Islamic State. ISIS is listed as a terrorist group in Canada and the United States. For his troubles, Khdiga Metwally's son Abdulrahman El Bahnasawy was sentenced in 2018 to 40 years in prison. Since then, as an inmate in a US. prison who violently attacked two prison guards, leaving one blind in an eye, he has had an additional 50 years added to his now-life sentence.

So, no, Ms. Metwally, you are incorrect in asserting that you should be judged on what you describe as your professional experiences and merits alone. That judgement is superficial in comparison to the reality of raising a child who developed a mental condition, a reliance on drugs as an addict, and an affiliation with a proscribed terrorist group whose infamous crimes shocked the world in their bold and dreadful efficiency reducing human life to a trifle to be summarily disposed of in the most ghastly atrocities.
You were, after all, that child's guide and mentor. Which makes you extraordinarily unfit to make decisions for other people's children in education and social integration in a universal system of a social contract where civilized conduct is at all times a part of every aspect of our lives.
